The château at Bézyl is a magnificently grand building spread over three floors and nestling in the 96 hectare estate that overlooks some of the most beautiful landscapes in the area.
Ideal for large parties, special occasions or a luxury break, the château provides accommodation over two floors with optional use of our home cinema and library area on the second floor.
Guests can also stay in any of our rooms on the rez-de-jardin on a B&B or self-catering basis.
Our family, the Roests from the Netherlands, has owned and managed this estate since 2001, during which time much love and attention has been lavished upon the grounds, the château and its annexes.
Prior to its renovation, the château was known to the neighbouring villages of Trohinat and St Just as “the house with no roof”, a reference dating back to the 1960s when the third floor and attic were removed, leaving more of a square shaped house.
Originally built in the Palladian style by the Italian founder of the estate in 1870, this country home has undergone some drastic renovation work over the last six years.
The artist decorator Bert Strik, a friend of the family who shares our passion for art-deco, created the interior with its colourful, complex nature-inspired frescoes and superb leaded glass windows. The grounds are managed using environmentally friendly practices, to encourage biodiversity and enhance the overall enjoyment factor for visitors.

Rez-de-jardin
This floor has had a colourful past. It has been used as a storage area for coal and firewood, served as a dog kennel, housed a basic kitchen and doubled as a cowshed for several years when the château stood empty.

This is the first time that the “rez de jardin” has formed part of the living area of the house.
Fully renovated, this floor comprises 5 double ensuite bedrooms, three of which have French doors, a lounge area, a spacious kitchen diner that opens out onto the terrace overlooking the grounds, and a fully equipped laundry room.

First floor
The double doored main entrance gives way to a yellow toned vestibule, flanked by block shaped walls.
From here the main staircase spirals grandly to the second floor, whilst two Portoro marble effect pillars form an entrance to the hallway.
The 12 metre high ceiling light is framed by a pastel coloured ceiling, decorated with organic art-deco shapes in pink, fuchsia and apricot tones, outlined with gold.
Beyond the 8-pillar flanked hallway is the grand salon, which forms the heart of the palladium.
This large lounge area connects to four other rooms: the kitchen, the drawing room, the fumoir and the dining room; as well as to the second floor, which can be glimpsed by looking upwards through the two circular light wells that double as a balcony for those looking down.

Second floor
The second floor of the château is a beautifully light space, benefiting as it does from two light wells that lend the château a feel not dissimilar to that of a summer holiday retreat.

The balcony area features new parquet flooring combining light oak contrasted with darker ribbons of wood, all worked around the light well in an oval shape. The limestone pillars have been marbled in a soft apricot colour, with Belgian bluestone underneath. The doors leading off this central space repeat the bronze tint observable in the skylight décor from the entrance hall. A turquoise and cerise wall textile links together the doors and ceilings.
A cosy reading area looking out over the rear of the château provides the perfect spot for those looking to relax or reflect in a hushed atmosphere.
Leading off this central space are two stunning double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms: the elegant and spacious Chambre de Manon and the rich, opulent Chambre du Baron Rouge. We also have a comfortably furnished home cinema that can seat between 16 and 20 people. Our wide selection of films in the next door library area make this an understandably popular hideout with guests.
