Ugly Wood

Badly damaged by forest fires in 1976 and 1989, this area of woodland just below The Rocks contains mainly birch, with some sweet chestnut and pines. A hideout for roe-deer, its bracken undergrowth stands 2.5 metres high in places.

In the immediate aftermath of the fires, the scarred remains of this woodland looked distressingly ugly. Now, years of recovery have seen it transformed into a beautiful, hidden part of Bézyl.
