Large Prairie

With almost 10 hectares of mainly uncultivated grassland, this is the largest field at Bézyl. Apart from many different species of grass, it also contains a multitude of native plants, including the ox-eye daisy, which creates a sea of white during May.

The roe deer browsing on the nourishing vegetation, the buzzard and foxes hunt voles, wild boar dig the soil in search of larvae, insects, roots and small mammals.

Standing at the top of the plateau affords a fantastic view across this large expanse. In autumn the château can be seen through the oranges and reds of the American oaks.

Summer sees the arrival of crickets, butterflies, moths, wasp spiders, crickets and grasshoppers. Whilst warm and sunny in spring and summer, the prairie is fairly exposed during autumn and winter, making the more sheltered paths along the woodland edges a more favourable option.
