This wood is mainly made up of sweet chestnut trees, with some pear and wild blossom. The northern section contains some of our tallest oak trees, which still bear the scars of the forest fires that swept through the estate back in 1976 and 1989. With their stag horn crowns they proudly hold their own, used by the woodpecker, stag horn beetle and many other birds and insects.
